« A day on Lake Geneva with Hugo: patient, a real teacher, and he reads the lake like nobody else. First pike of my life at 11 am, released. We're coming back in spring with my brother. »

Fishing guide in Switzerland and France
A day's fishing is first a human adventure, and a day in nature that stays with you.
My name is Hugo Leon. State-certified fishing guide, trained in natural habitat management, based in Martigny. I guide on the fly on the rivers and lakes of Valais, on lures from my boat on Lake Geneva, and part of the season in Alsace, where it all began. Beginner or seasoned angler: the day is built around you.

Three territories, one approach.

Your guide
Hugo Leon
I grew up in Alsace with a rod in my hand as soon as I could hold one. Fifteen years later, fishing has taken me to the Rhine, the Vosges, abroad, and finally to Valais, where I live today. Along the way I studied nature management and conservation, then ecological restoration: understanding a river before fishing it has become my way of doing things.
The French state diploma for fishing guides (BPJEPS) turned the passion into a profession. What I love is passing it on: reading the water with you, adjusting the technique to your level, and showing you places you would not find alone. Safety, respect for the fish and the habitat, and good company are not negotiable.

The approach
What makes a good day.
Tailor-made
No standard programme: your wishes, your level, the weather and the season decide the spot and the technique.
Knowledge of the water
Trained in river and lake ecology, I read the water before fishing it, and teach you to do the same.
Responsible fishing
Careful handling, release when appropriate, respect for cantonal regulations and closed seasons.
The right gear
Rods, reels, lines, lures, flies, waders: everything is provided and chosen for the day's water.
Beginners and enthusiasts alike
First rod or experienced angler after a specific spot: the teaching adapts, the standard stays.

What people often ask me.
Do I need to know how to fish?
No. Half of my clients hold a rod for the first time. I adapt the technique and the pace, and the gear is provided. If you are experienced, we go further, finer, more technical.
Do I need a fishing permit?
Yes, a cantonal day permit (Valais or Vaud depending on the sector). It is not included, but I tell you exactly where and how to get it — usually online, in five minutes.
What if the weather is bad?
Light rain: we fish, often better. Strong wind on the lake, storms, flooding: we postpone, free of charge. I call you the evening before to confirm.
What is provided?
All the fishing gear: rods, reels, lines, lures, flies, waders depending on the sector, life jackets on the boat and in the float tube, and the float tube itself. You bring suitable clothing, something to eat and sunscreen.
Do we keep the fish?
On Lake Geneva and on rivers I prefer to release the big ones. Keeping one or two fish for dinner is possible within cantonal size and bag limits; we talk about it on the day.
Can we come as a pair or a family?
Yes. The boat takes two anglers, rivers up to three. Children are welcome from about age 8, accompanied by an adult.
